Hope Through Action
South Africa
| Children/Education
Hope Through Action was specifically created in 2007 to bring about an imaginative and life changing initiative for young people in South Africa. We use sport as a medium, not only to develop positive life skills, but also physical ability, to assist young people in coping with difficult realities. Our unique approach combines a high profile asset – a modern sports centre – with tightly integrated development programmes to provide life changing opportunities for young people aged 6 to 18 years. We raise funds to build modern indoor community sports facilities serving deprived townships in the Western Cape, South Africa. We also secure funds for the innovative development programmes and coaching staff. We believe that, through the power of sport, we can change lives by enabling individuals to develop their own self-belief and confidence. Not only do they improve their physical fitness, but they learn to work and play as a team. Our development programmes are designed to build their interpersonal skills, create self-discipline and enable them to achieve pride in themselves and their abilities. Through workshops they increase their health awareness, and our leadership programmes develop our young people’s leadership, sports and peer coaching skills.
