CAP encourages the dignity and self-worth of poverty-stricken Appalachian individuals and families through self-help programs promoting holistic growth. CAP operates a variety of crisis intervention and long-term development programs that attempt to cut the roots of poverty. The organization's Prescription Assistance program helps qualifying participants obtain free medications, which helps to provide a better quality of life for the individuals. CAP reports that over 33,000 individuals are served by CAP’s Human Service programs each year. "Operation Sharing" is one of CAP’s programs that acquires and distributes health products, garden supplies, food commodities, new and used clothing, and home repair materials. CAP also operates an alternative home repair spring break program with attendance that averages about 350 college students annually.
