In 1995 a national membership association was established in South Africa: DAPP South Africa. It was later named Humana People to People South Africa (HPP-SA) and a small group of project leaders and activists from other countries in the region moved into South Africa to work shoulder to shoulder with the newly elected ANC Government of a free South Africa. Today, Humana People to People in South Africa creates work for more than 1,500 South Africans on the and thousands of community volunteers are active on the programmes. The organization has reached 2.6 million South Africans with the Total Control of the Epidemic programme to fight HIV & AIDS. The programme is implemented in 5 provinces. Humana People to People South Africa's HOPE projects carry out voluntary counseling, positive living clubs and a number of small income generating activities.
