Maungatautariis an internationally significant restoration project, with 3,400 hectare forested, extinct volcano stands majestically on the landscape in the Waikato basin. We build and maintain a 47km totally pest-proof fence around the forest on Maungatautari, and eliminate ALL warm-blooded (mammalian) animal pests within the fence. We re-introduce threatened species that have been lost from Maungatautari, including kiwi, kokako, giant weta, and tuatara, while building visitor access gates and tracks and create a wildlife haven where visitors are welcome. We encourage visitors to come and enjoy the vibrant wildlife, and to experience a pest-free New Zealand forest.
