Since opening in 1964, the Indianapolis Zoo has grown into a world-class facility hosting a million visitors each year and playing a major role in worldwide conservation and research, including accomplishing the world’s first successful artificial insemination of an African elephant. Conservation is the motivating force behind the mission of the Indianapolis Zoo. We participate in environmental and conservation programming on multiple levels.
