The Mission of the Masonic Homes of California is to provide quality care to California Master Masons, their wives, widows and mothers, as well as to children with and without Masonic affiliations, with dignity and compassion, within an atmosphere based on Masonic tenets that fulfill the physical, social, spiritual and nurturing needs of our extended community.

In 1850, two years after gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill in Northern California, a terrible cholera epidemic struck Sacramento. At the time, individual Masons gave money and personal aid to relieve the suffering of those who became ill. In the devastating aftermath of the epidemic, they came to realize that the Masons of California needed a facility to care for widows and orphans. Much has changed in the years since the Homes opened, but not the basic principals on which they were founded. Throughout the years, the Trustees of the Homes have never wavered from their mission to provide relief to members of the fraternal family who are in need.
