More information
The Benevolent Society is Australia’s first charity, founded in 1813 by Edward Smith Hall. Since our earliest days we have advocated for positive social change and progressive social policy. Many of today's essential social services were pioneered by The Benevolent Society. Then, as today, our organisation gave a voice to women, children, older people, those with disabilities and people experiencing poverty, calling for responsible and empathetic policy while implementing innovative programs that led the way for charities and government. We support people across the lifespan to build on their strengths and lead happy and fulfilling lives. We help to connect communities through support groups, volunteer visiting programs and community projects. Our vision is that every person is healthy, safe, connected and has a meaningful and productive role in their community.
