HakiElimu

| Children/Education
HakiElimu works to realize equity and justice in basic education and society by promoting
the democratization of governance at all levels of society. Our approach focuses on creating space for concerned citizens to make a difference in education and democracy. Throughout, we seek to bridge persistent gaps between policy and practice by making current policies work for the people, and we also ensure that the Government serves the public and provides practical justice to all concerned. We aim to enable the ordinary citizens to get involved in order to make a difference in the education sector. We believed that education would improve when ordinary citizens became involved in effecting that change creating meaningful public participation in education governance. Therefore, we could say that HakiElimu is an experiment to see whether schools can be governed in an inclusive, open and democratic fashion; and whether the poor can access the relevant information and influence policy and practice.
