Save the Amazon Rainforest Organisation Ltd is a registered charity raising awareness of the plight of the Amazon Rainforest and works closely with The Instituto Caiuá and the NTFP Foundation.
Our goal is the sustainable development of tropical forests, creating an environmental management system involving local residents. We carry out sustainable agricultural projects with the local forest dwellers enabling them to live in harmony with the forest, while working with the Brazilian people to manage rainforest ecosystems in a sustainable way. STARO provides economic alternatives for the local people, substantially reducing the damage caused by destructive agricultural practices. Our purchasing of the land with the IGCA enables these projects to take place and to create Private Natural Heritage Reserves (RPPN). We are collaborating with the Research Institute of the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro. We undertake research to identify the needs of the forest dwellers, investigate solutions and prepare strategies and guidelines towards sustainable environmental management of the area.
